Wildcats Travel For Weekend Series With Santa Clara

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern continues its season in California with a four-game series at Santa Clara. The series opens on Friday at 8 p.m. CT before a double-header on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. CT. First pitch for Sunday’s series finale is set for 2 p.m. CT.

First-baseman Anthony Calarco was dominant in the ‘Cats opening series against UAB, posting a .400 average and 1.404 OPS in 17 plate appearances. Calarco swatted two home runs and two doubles, while driving in seven of the Wildcats’ 14 runs in the series.

Probable starters for Friday and Saturday include senior Mike Doherty and first-year Sean Sullivan. Doherty went 5.1 innings on Opening Day after leading the ‘Cats with a 3.69 ERA in 63.1 innings last season.

Sullivan earned a start in his collegiate debut, tossing three strong innings of one-run ball and striking out six. He is the first Northwestern true first-year to earn a spot in the opening-weekend rotation since Quinn Lavelle in 2018.

Northwestern has squared off with Santa Clara 10 times in program history, last splitting a four-game series in 2017.
