Players Head Home After Hockey India Grants One-Month Break

The players had spoken about being homesick during a virtual interaction with Sports activities Minister Kiren Rijiju a couple months back.

Barring men’s crew goalkeeper Suraj Karkera, who belongs to Mumbai, and the women’s crew trio of Vandana Katariya, Sushila Chanu and Lalremsiami, all other players still left the SAI Centre for their respective houses on Friday morning.

“Suraj did not go mainly because of the grave scenario in Mumbai though Sushila, Vandana and Lalremsiami stayed back mainly because of the COVID-19 protocols in their respective states,” a source stated.

When Sushila is from Manipur, Vandana and Lalremsiami hail from Uttarakhand and Mizoram respectively.
