The woeful history of Key League Baseball’s Baltimore Orioles is combining with the coronavirus pandemic to charge the point out hundreds of thousands of pounds in lease payments.

The Baltimore Sunshine documented Saturday that the team’s lease payments to the Maryland Stadium Authority have dropped precipitously in the previous year owing to lower attendance and reduction of ballpark-generated earnings.

The Orioles paid out $one.six million in lease to the Stadium Authority for the use of Oriole Park at Camden Yards in the fiscal year ending June 30.

The team’s regular annual lease of its 30-year lease has been $six.eight million.

The lease payments are centered on a share of ticket gross sales, concessions, parking and stadium advertising.

The workforce has the worst history in the majors and attendance is sparse. In the course of the pandemic-shortened 2020 period, supporters were not allowed in the stadium at all.

The lease funds is applied specially for the upkeep of the ballpark. Stadium officials say they have curtailed upkeep charges accordingly.

The lease losses are in addition to the reduction of admission taxes on ticket gross sales.
