Colts could be done with Carson Wentz after one year

Carson Wentz could be one-and-performed in Indianapolis.

One particular year just after he was traded from the Eagles to the Colts, the quarterback could be released or traded once again before March 18, ESPN’s Chris Mortenson described Sunday right before the Tremendous Bowl.

The importance of that date is that is when Wentz’s $22 million income for 2022 will become confirmed and when he also is due to receive a $6.3 million signing reward.

If Wentz is unveiled just before March 18, the Colts continue to would owe him $15 million, but they would save the supplemental $13.3 million. The Eagles acquired the Colts’ first-spherical choice (16th total) this calendar year — upgraded from an first conditional next-rounder due to Wentz’s enjoying time this time — and a 2022 third-rounder.

The 29-yr-previous Wentz, the No. 2 in general draft decide on by the Eagles in 2016, completed with a 9-8 history with the Colts this period. He threw for 3,563 yards with 27 touchdowns and 7 interceptions, but he did not perform perfectly in a Week 18 decline to Jacksonville, costing Indianapolis a playoff berth.
